The Journey to Our New Library Begins! Updated 9/5/25

the journey to our new library begins

A Message from the Library Director

Dear Pennsauken Community,

We officially moved to our new building on August 1! While this marks a major milestone, we want to share that our grand opening has been postponed to October due to some unexpected delays. We truly appreciate your patience. The wait will be worth it, and we’re confident you’re going to love the new library space.

Meanwhile, Pennsauken Free Public Library staff are hard at work setting up our new building, and we look forward to welcoming you this fall. In the meantime, we have partnered with the Camden County Library System to offer Pennsauken residents free 3-month courtesy library cards.

For more information, please call or visit any branch of the Camden County Library System:
https://events.camdencountylibrary.org/locations

Please note: Pennsauken residents using the courtesy cards will be subject to Camden County Library System’s rules and policies, which may differ from PFPL’s.

Pennsauken Reads – 10,000 Book Challenge!

We encourage everyone to keep participating in our Pennsauken Reads – 10,000 Book Challenge! This exciting community initiative invites all residents to help us reach 10,000 books read by the end of 2025. Whether you’re reading with your family, in a book club, or on your own—every book counts. Join us and be part of something inspiring!

Even while our physical building is closed, you can continue to enjoy free access to thousands of books, movies, music, and more through:

  • Libby

When will the new library open?

We’re excited to announce the Grand Opening Celebration of the new library is planned for October. We can’t wait to welcome you into our new space!

How can I stay informed during the transition?

Stay connected through our website, social media, and email newsletters for the latest news and events during the move.

Will I be charged late fees during the closure?

If you miss the book drop deadline, just hold on to your items until we reopen in October — we understand and appreciate your patience! No extended use fees will be charged over the summer during the closure.

Can I place holds or request items during the closure?

Physical holds and interlibrary loans will be temporarily unavailable during the closure. We will also be pausing the purchase of requested items during this time period. However, you can still place holds and borrow digital materials using our online platforms like Libby and Hoopla.

Will my library card still work during the closure?

Yes! Your library card will continue to work for accessing all digital resources, and it will be fully active again for physical materials once we reopen.

Will Wi-Fi or printing services be available anywhere during the closure?

Printing services will not be available during the closure. While the library building will be closed, the Wi-Fi signal may still be accessible from the parking lot, depending on construction activity.

However, access to the parking lot itself may be limited or unavailable during this time. Please check our website and social media for the latest update

How can I volunteer or help during this transition?

Thank you for your interest! We welcome community support and we may have volunteer opportunities during the transition and as we prepare for the Grand Opening in October. Please email askalibrarian@pennsaukenlibrary.org or check our website and social media for the latest updates and announcements.

What will happen to the memorial stones and planks donated in honor of loved ones?

These items will be transitioned to the new building. The library and the township will work together to find an appropriate location for them on the new facility grounds.

When will the demolition of the old building take place?

Demolition will most likely occur in late August or early September.

What should I do if my library card expires during the closure?

Please email us at askalibrarian@pennsaukenlibrary.org. A staff member will respond within 48 hours to assist you with renewing your card.

If your account has extended use fees or outstanding replacement item charges, we will not be able to process your renewal until the issue is resolved.

When emailing, please include your full name, phone number, and library card number to help us assist you more efficiently.
